Attendance Policy
The purpose of the Valley View Middle School Attendance Policy reflects our desire to have each student attend all classes and arrive on time. Students and parents should familiarize themselves with the provisions and procedures of the policy in the Student Handbook. It is expected that parents will support the intent of the policy, and encourage their children to have good attendance.
Students are expected to be in their classroom seated and ready to begin on time. If students are tardy, they must report to the office before going to class. We are required to track tardies, as well as absences, to comply with Minnesota statutes. Please understand that with a student body of over 1100 students, well-managed attendance procedures are very important to minimize classroom interruptions and provide optional learning conditions for all students.
Early Pick Up and Late Arrival
Please attempt to schedule appointments outside of school hours. If your child needs to leave school, all pick-ups and late arrivals can be arranged either through the online attendance system in the Parent Portal (preferred method) or by calling the 24 hour Attendance Line at 952-848-3502.
When a parent or guardian calls or submits an online attendance request for a student to leave early, an electronic SmartPass will be created. It is the student’s responsibility show the SmartPass to the teacher when it is time to leave. Students arriving late must enter through Door #1, check-in at the main office, and create a SmartPass before going to class. Please arrange for your student’s early pick-up or late arrival by 8:30 AM. This allows time for office staff to prepare a SmartPass before your student arrives in the building.
All early pick-ups and late arrivals must take place through Door #1.
Please check out the VVMS Attendance page for more information.
