8th Grade Field Trips - Action Needed

8th Grade Parents,

There are two field trips planned this year:

  • Buck Hill: Thursday, January 15: all day, skiing/snowboarding or tubing
  • Valleyfair: Friday, May 29, all day!

We need all students to:

  1. Have the permission form filled out by a parent/guardian (Even if your student is not attending; there is a place to note this on the form)
  2. Pay the Field Trip fees through the Edina Portal

Computer Science 8

Students in Computer Science 8 are working on a human device interaction app. They are creating a physical device that incorporates a circuit playground. That device can be controlled by an app created on code.org. The pictures show a lamp that allows the user to control light color.

Other projects include books that teach children colors and apps that can control the color of holiday lights on trees. It’s great to see the creativity in the projects!

VVMS Food Drive - Big Success!

The Service Squad's food drive was an incredible success. Our school donated 5,314 items. Here is a part of a message from the Communications and Outreach Coordinator at VEAP:

"Oh my goodness! I was out yesterday and walked into the pantry completely blown away this morning. Pallets stacked with all of the Valley View Middle donations... 5,018 lbs. worth! Thank you and the VV Middle Community so much for stepping up for our neighbors!"

Thank you so much to those who donated food! Without all of you, this food drive could not have happened!

Middle School Skills

Sixth Grade Middle School Skills students have been learning about how to create a schoolwork study space at home and daily study routine. They put together a google slide presentation of their process to share with their classmates.

Family Financial Support

Due to changes in state and federal funding and other family hardships, we understand it can be challenging to financially support your family’s needs. If your family is in need of any financial assistance, Valley View provides the following resources:

  • Food Pantry (small meals and snack items)
  • Gift Cards for grocery stores
  • Clothing (Edina gear, winter coats, etc.)
  • Scholarships for field trips (sponsored by our fabulous PTO)

If you are interested in accessing supports or learning more about what we offer at Valley View, please reach out to Jill Wait, School Social Worker, at jill.wait@edinaschools.org or call 952.848.4481.

For community based resources, please contact Krista Phillips at Edina Resource Center (krista.phillips.@edinaschools.org) or access resources on their website at: https://edinaresourcecenter.com

Volunteer at Valley View!
Lunch and Hall Monitors

Come experience the Valley View VIBE and make a difference in students' lives!

We love having our VVMS parents volunteer during passing times and at lunch! It is a great way to experience the school and make a positive difference in the lives of Valley View students!

We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate!

For reference, here is the VV Daily Schedule.

Thank you!!

Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

Parking for Parent Visitors

Parents and caregivers, if you are visiting Valley View please check in at the front desk and a clipboard will be provided for you to enter your vehicle information. This will prevent any boots or ticketing.

Thank You!

Community Shares
Buzz Off Social Media

Join Buzz Off Social — a parent-led movement encouraging families to wait until age 16 before kids join social media.

Our mission is to support each other in delaying social media use. Our goal is to share the benefits of waiting on social media use. We commit to promote healthy tech habits in our community and modeling good tech habits around our children.

Learn more and take the pledge at buzzoffsocial.org

* This is a non partisan parent-led movement, not affiliated with Edina public schools.

Countryside Traffic Survey

Our neighbors at Countryside  Elementary are collecting community input for the two intersections directly in front of their school, specifically focused on the safety of pedestrians, bikers, and drivers. Because many of us also use the intersections of at Benton Avenue & Tracy Avenue  and Countryside Road & Tracy Avenue your input is encouraged.

Please consider sharing your experiences by taking the Countryside Traffic Safety Survey. Your comments, concerns, and suggestions can be submitted up until the end of day Wednesday, December 3.
