First Day of School Schedule

The first day of school at both Edina Middle Schools will be a ‘late start’ for returning 7th and 8th graders. This allows us to host an ‘Orientation Experience’ in the morning for all incoming 6th graders and new-to-Edina 7th and 8th graders. See below for important details!

Morning Orientation Experience Details (for some)

  • 9:20 AM - 1:20 PM  -
    • Who’s Invited?  -- All incoming 6th graders and new-to-Edina-students in 7th and 8th grade.**
    • What is it? -- A thoughtful start to the first day of school to ensure that students who are making a transition to VVMS have a great first day!
    • What do I need to do? -- Students should show up like they normally would on a 1st day of school.  This means bringing what they would normally bring and coming to VVMS when and how they normally would (buses will run at their regular AM time).
    • 2 IMPORTANT NOTES
      • **Returning 7th and 8th graders who are part of WEB, Ambassadors, and/or VVTV are expected to come for the whole day to help welcome new students and prepare for the school year. Students Leaders in our Culture Crew, Service Squad, and Yearbook SLTs should come to school at the regular afternoon time.
      • Personal invitations will be sent out to some returning students who may benefit from starting their 1st day of school in the morning.  Please reach out to Student Services (952)-848-3389 or an IEP case manager if you don’t receive an invitation and would like more information.

Afternoon Day 1 Kick-Off  (for all)

  • 1:20 PM - 4:05 PM -
    • All other VVMS students are expected to join us for the afternoon.
    • Transportation:  Buses will run their typical routes to get students to school in the afternoon.  Students should add 4 hours to their typical AM bus stop time to get picked up (for example, if your bus normally picks up at 9:05am it will be at your stop at 1:05pm).
    • NO School Lunch: Students coming for the afternoon will need to have lunch at home this day!
    • What do I need to do? -- Students should show up like they normally would on a 1st day of school.  This means bringing what they would normally bring and coming to VVMS how they normally would, except 4 hours later!

Lunch and Hall Monitors (Ongoing)

Come see what the fuss is all about, our kids are great and you make a difference!

We loved having our VVMS parents volunteer during passing times and at lunch last year! Please, please please, keep coming in and volunteering to supervise.

We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate!

For reference, here is the VV Daily Schedule.

Thank you!!

Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

Parking for Parent Visitors

Parents and caregivers, if you are visiting Valley View please check in at the front desk and a clipboard will be provided for you to enter your vehicle information. This will prevent any boots or ticketing.

Thank You!

PTO News
Support the PTO!

The VVMS PTO does not hold any other fundraisers throughout the year, this is your chance to support our school!

PTO Family Contributions are $75 per family and they grant you access to the school directory and help provide much needed funding to support programs, teachers, and staff at our school.

What are Family Contributions used for?

  • They support student programs
  • They help us show appreciation to our teachers and staff
  • They are the only source of funding for the PTO (that’s right, nothing to sell or additional fundraisings throughout the year!)

** If you require a SCHOLARSHIP please enter code CONTRIBUTIONS2025 at checkout **

Thank you for your support!
