VVMS PARKING LOT PROTOCOLS

We have had some REALLY close calls during pick up where students are getting picked up in precarious situations and safety is at risk.

DO NOT:

  • Park on medians in the parking lot; it creates a dangerous situation for our students and families.
  • Idle in the one way moving traffic

DO:

  • Have students board on school side
  • Stay alert and have your head on a swivel to avoid accidents
  • Honor our parking lot protocols
2025-2026 Registration

Registrations for next school year are due this Friday, 2/14. Please work in collaboration with your student to have these submitted on time.

*Purchase your Yearbook* LAST DAY!

Mark your calendars and order your 2024-2025 yearbook by Feb. 10th to guarantee a copy! There are very few copies available to purchase in Spring and last year most students who waited were unable to purchase one.

Edina Dance Team - State Champs

Congratulations to the Edina Dance Team B Squad for taking 1st place in State!

Marble Challenge

Students in Engineering Exploration 6 are learning about the design process by creating marble roller coasters that meet a set of criteria and constraints. Students were allowed to use a limited supply of cardboard and hot glue to make the marble course.

Their course needed to have a minimum of 3 direction changes, a one inch incline, and the marble needed to travel a minimum of 24 inches. Size of the project, time, and materials were a few of the given constraints of the project.

Book Club

A meeting of the English Learners Book Club.

Congrats to our VVMS mathletes!

14 VVMS mathletes competed at the City of Lakes South Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition on Feb. 3 at the U of M. 7 of the 14 VVMS mathletes placed in the top 16 individuals at the competition.

VVMS’s team of four (Alexander Yang, Jonathan Fan, Alvin Yang, Ahmed Ilyasov) placed 1st and will be representing VVMS at the State MATHCOUNTS competition in early March!

Approximately 140 mathletes from 12 middle school around the SW Metro and Mpls. competed in the competition. This is the 16th consecutive year VVMS mathletes have earned the opportunity to compete at the State MATHCOUNTS competition.

Interested in what is involved in a MATHCOUNTS competition? Read on!

Each MATHCOUNTS competition is broken into three rounds:

  • The Sprint Round consists of answering 30 problems in 40 minutes with no calculator.
  • The Target Round consists of answering a series of four pairs of problems. Mathletes have six minutes to answer each pair of problems using a calculator.
  • The Team Round consists of answering 10 problems in 20 minutes using a calculator. Each school is allowed to have one official four member competing team.

There is also a Countdown Round where students race to be the first to correctly answer math problems without a calculator. The Countdown Round is held in many different formats, depending on which competition mathletes are at. The Countdown Round is the final official round for determining the individual winner of the National MATHCOUNTS competition, which is held in May each year.

8th Grade Band - MMEA Convention

The Valley View 8th Grade Band are getting ready to perform at the 2025 Minnesota Music Educators Association’s (MMEA) Midwinter Convention!

The performance will take place on Thurs, Feb. 13, 2025 at 11:30AM and last approximately 45 minutes. The performance is part of the Midwinter Convention and will take place in the Main Auditorium of the Minneapolis Convention Center.

This is a really big deal! There is no higher award or accolade for a performing ensemble in the state of Minnesota. The students are excited and honored to represent the Edina Band Program as well as our district and community.

Volunteer Opportunities
Lunch and Hall Monitors

Come see what the fuss is all about, our kids are great and you make a difference!

We loved having our VVMS parents volunteer during passing times and at lunch last year! Please, please please, keep coming in and volunteering to supervise.

We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate!

For reference, here is the VV Daily Schedule.

Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

Parking for Parent Visitors

Parents and caregivers, if you are visiting Valley View please check in at the front desk and a clipboard will be provided for you to enter your vehicle information. This will prevent any boots or ticketing.

Thank You!

Extra Curricular Opportunities
Girls & Boys Ultimate Frisbee

Sign-up & registration is now open for Girls & Boys Ultimate Frisbee, grades 5-8. This sport is great for students interested in making new friends, developing additional skills that translate to other sports, and leads to fun playing opportunities at the high school level and beyond. Ultimate Frisbee is a no-cut sport that is inclusive to everyone, and no prior experience is needed.

To learn more and register, visit EdinaUltimate.org/e/Middle25.

Email info@EdinaUltimate.org with any questions.

Girls Synchronized Swimming Team

Looking for a no-cut sport or an opportunity to try something new? If you’re in 7th or 8th grade, consider the EHS Girls Synchronized Swimming team!

A love of the water is the only “must.” Former dancers and gymnasts’ experience will translate to the pool (technique, formations, moving to counts, etc.). Musical experience can also may help with counts and timing for routines.

But truly, no experience necessary! The coaches will teach swimmers everything they need to know! It's a fun way to be active and build camaraderie as part of an Edina High School varsity sports team.

Most of the team started in high school with no prior experience. All 7th and 8th graders are welcome!

Summer Woodshop Opportunity

We’re excited to have a new opportunity to use the Edina Community Center Woodshop for Middle School / High School day-camps this summer—but we want to hear from you first!

What should we build? What tools are you curious about? What techniques do you want to learn?

Please take 5 minutes to fill out our survey and help co-create an awesome new addition to summer camps this year.

Also, if you know any talented woodworkers who might enjoy working with youth—have them get in touch! And if you’re thinking, “Wow! I want to take a woodworking class, too, but I’m an adult!” Fear not, we are looking to expand our adult class offerings and have a survey for that too.

Superintendent Search

The Edina School Board has begun planning to hire our new superintendent, with the official search beginning in fall 2025. To ease the transition, an interim superintendent will be hired to coincide with Dr. Stanley’s expected departure in mid-April and serve through the end of the 2025-26 school year. Stakeholder feedback will be an essential component of the hiring process.
