Continuous Learning Cycle

Our Valley View staff are active practitioners that constantly engage in action research. Last year, VVMS launched continuous learning cycles. These 4-6 week processes involve teachers and staff using high impact strategies across the entire campus.

Our school’s first cycle this year was tethered to Dr. Hattie’s appendix that is derived from thousands of meta-analyses. His research produced several things that teachers and staff could do to boost student academic growth, exponentially. We used “Multiple Exposures” through academic vocabulary in our first launch and wow, were students impacted! We heard students using our bank of terms in various classrooms, in the lunchroom, and even a kiddo that came down to the office for a minor discipline issue, used a term and then stated “Hey, I think I just used one of those words we’ve been seeing in our classes!”.

We are super proud of the effectiveness our continuous learning cycles have on our community and will continue to use our collective efficacy to boost the academic experience for our scholars. Big cheers to our teachers and staff that worked tirelessly to exercise our strategy, and then curate artifacts to share with the greater team. Our next cycle starts 11/6 and we are using the high impact strategy of meaningful, purposeful, and rich feedback.

Annandale Textile Center Trip

Ms. Geere was joined by Ms. Mettee and others to enjoy the Annandale Textile Center. Students were given a chance to check out looms and the incredible impact such crafts have had on a unique intersection of humanity.

It was an amazing experience and we are so proud of the partnership. Big love to Ms. Geere for leading the charge with this endeavor.

Do you have a 4th or 5th grader? Join us for Middle School Nights!

During these events we will share information about middle school for 4th-5th graders and their caregivers.

You will hear from middle school administrators and staff, learn about the middle school experience at a student/parent panel, and tour the building. Students will also get to attend their first middle school rally.

This night is part information/part fun. We hope this event will get families and students informed and excited about what is to come at South View and Valley View!

Seeking Seasonal Plants

Dear Valley View Families,

WINTER IS ON THE WAY! Culture Crew SLT is thrilled to share that we are launching another Make Edina Green project! We as a school want to help create a healthier environment for the students and teachers.

If you have any seasonal potted plants or house plants you throw out in the winter, we would love to collect them so we can put them in our classrooms! This will give plants another life and make our school more vibrant!

You can bring any or all of your potted plants to the school. Please drop them at door 1 near the front office. We are excited to find new homes for your unused potted plants.

Thank you!

Volunteer Opportunities
Lunch and Hall Monitors

Come see what the fuss is all about, our kids are great and you make a difference!

We loved having our VVMS parents volunteer during passing times and at lunch last year! Please, please please, keep coming in and volunteering to supervise.

We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate!

Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

Parking for Parent Visitors

Parents and caregivers, if you are visiting Valley View please check in at the front desk and a clipboard will be provided for you to enter your vehicle information. This will prevent any boots or ticketing.

Thank You!
