New VVMS Clubs on the horizon and we need your help!

Exciting new Clubs are forming at VVMS and we are looking to fulfill a few volunteer and donation requests from our school community.

  • Certified Lifeguard needed for a potential Swimming Club. 15-20 students. A community or family member that would be willing to provide support on the 4 Fridays we offer clubs (2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/1)
  • Sign Language Club is seeking an adult that can assist on some of the Fridays and share their knowledge of sign language.
  • Looking for old tees shirt donations for a group that is interested in using these to make chew toys that can be donated to animal shelters.

Look for more upcoming volunteer and donation requests for VVMS Clubs coming soon!

MN Junior High Math League

Valley View students shined in this year's competition! Check out a picture of the Math Team and the cool trophy they earned which is now proudly displayed at our school.

Here are a few words from their proud teacher, Mrs. Schlukebier:

“Wow. At the end of every Math Team season, I sit back and think about how impressed I am with our Math Team and how there’s no way that the next season can be better. And then I’m proved wrong. Yet again, this team has knocked my socks off with how well they work together. Our VVMS mathletes were incredibly gracious hosts at yesterday’s final MNJHML competition of the season! And every VVMS mathlete earned points in every competition they attended. That’s crazy good. “

“VVMS placed 1st in our MNJHML division. VVMS placed 2nd overall in the state.

The top ten individuals in our MNJHML division are ALL VVMS mathletes!

Alvin Yang (gr. 7) is one of only THREE individuals in the entire state to score what we call a “perfect season” – the maximum overall individual score in a MN Junior High Math League season is 140 points. Alvin got every single problem correct over the course of 5 competitions in 4 months’ time. He, along with 11 other VV mathletes, will represent VVMS at the Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition in just over two weeks from now!

Keep making a difference in 2024!

We have loved having our VVMS parents volunteer during passing times and at lunch! Please, please please, keep coming in and volunteering to supervise.

We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate!

**If you need to reserve a work space while you are there please do so HERE; for reference, here is the VV Daily Schedule.

Thank you!!

**Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

Parking for Parent Visitors

Parents and caregivers, if you are visiting Valley View and parking in the visitor spots, please check in at the front desk and a clipboard will be provided for you to enter your vehicle information. This will prevent any boots or ticketing.

PTO News
Season of Giving Gift Update

Thanks to everyone who generously donated to our Teacher & Staff Gift Fund in December!

Each staff at VVMS received a gift of $50 and we hosted coffee and pastries on Wednesday morning for them.

Coffee was provided by Edina Coffee Roasters, it was a great way to spoil our staff and support a local business, go check them out at Cahill if you haven't already!

Support the PTO!

The VVMS PTO does not hold any other fundraisers throughout the year, this is your chance to support our school!

Can you help us get there with a dues payment or consider an additional donation?

THANK YOU!!

Literacy @EPS Jan. 30th

Join us to learn more about how the Edina Public Schools Comprehensive Literacy Plan works with the READ Act and what that means for each and every student in our schools.

Hear from Edina teachers who are embedded in LETRS professional development and see how this training has impacted their classroom teaching and improved student growth. Edina is truly at the forefront of literacy professional development in our state.

Come hear how you can help keep this momentum going. (No registration needed for this event.) This event is a kick-off to our week of Community Action for Kids’ Education – the CAKE-Off.

Edina CAKE Off

On Friday, February 2 we will learn about our schools directly from Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley, hear from teachers who have been part of the LETRS Literacy Professional Development Program our work has helped fund, talk to Edina High School students who have benefitted from your generosity in our programs in STEAM and Mental Health and Wellness, and connect with fellow community members that come together each year to take action for kids' education - Support the CAKE-Off (Community Action for Kid’s Education)!

This annual event brings together our community to raise awareness around the financial gap and the need for private funding to ensure the level of education we have come to expect at Edina Public Schools. There are many ways to support the Ed Fund’s work alongside EPS in Mental Health, Literacy and STEAM. On Friday, February 2, join us over your lunch at St Patrick's Church of Edina or over Zoom - whichever works best for you.

Register today for the CAKE-Off and bring along a friend or two! CLICK HERE

Thank you for supporting the important work of the Ed Fund to help each and every Edina Public School student thrive. We look forward to being with you at Literacy @EPS and CAKE-Off!
