Secret Snowflake

Dear Valley View Families,

Valley View started a new tradition last year called Secret Snowflake. The Secret Snowflake event was created by our Student Leadership Team. It was designed to encourage the spirit of giving, create a sense of community, and add a bit of fun to the student day.

Student advisories are partnered together and there are a few small treat exchanges. Students do not know which advisory is giving them gifts. In the week before Winter Break the secret snowflake advisories are revealed and brought together to celebrate the upcoming break.

We’d love your support by being a presence on campus this day to help us celebrate our young Hornets and/or by sending a small treat in with your student. We only need a couple of students in each advisory to bring in a treat. They would need to bring in 24 of the same treat to ensure there is enough for everyone in the secret snowflake advisory. As we are very conscientious of all our students’ beliefs, we ask that you do not buy treats that have any religious symbols on them.

Treats should be individually wrapped items. This is meant to be a small treat, please do not feel the need to do anything excessive. A small piece of candy or another small treat is what we are suggesting. Students should bring treats into their advisory teachers.

Thank you for your support and understanding.  We wish you all a wonderful Holiday season.

WEB Team and Student Mentors

Big love to our WEB team and our student mentors! Our young scholars spent time with younger Hornets - playing games, enjoying great conversation, and boosting our belonging.

Such a fun tradition!

We Love Our Parent Volunteers!

We love our VVMS parents! Please, please please, come in and volunteer to supervise. We are offering work spaces for those who want to come during our passing time. This allows our parents to supervise halls during transition time but then hop back into an office to work. We're happy to accommodate! Shout to our parent volunteers this week! Love to see it!

Volunteer Opportunities
Lunch and Hall Monitors

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered already! We are loving having parents and caregivers around to help supervise our young Hornets during lunch and transition times. We have already noticed an improvement in language and behavior.

We are still looking for Somali speaking, Spanish speaking, and English speaking parent volunteers, to help with supervision. Please consider signing up for a shift, dates available through winter break:

Thank you!!

**Working with middle school requires the right temperament. We mostly just need you to be smiley, and cheerful. We avoid practices that involve screaming or yelling. We prefer softer approaches that are kind but firm. Individuals volunteering are able to suspend bias and judgment and can offer support for all students. If you think this is you? Please help us in adding a greater eco-system like approach to how we guide and shepherd our young Hornets.

VVMS Updates
Free Menstrual Products

The Minnesota Legislature passed a new statute that all schools must provide free menstrual products in bathrooms for students grades 4 through 12.

Valley View Middle School will have a free dispenser installed in some bathrooms over the winter break. We encourage all parents to talk with their children about the natural body changes that occur in every child and how they can use these free menstrual products, if needed.
